The Bank of Elk River Celebrates Amy O’Konek’s 10th Work Anniversary

The Bank of Elk River is delighted to celebrate the 10th work anniversary of Amy O’Konek. Amy’s journey with us began a decade ago when she decided to return to the banking industry after 16 years of raising her three daughters. She initially joined as a part-time teller, a role that perfectly suited her busy home life. Over the years, Amy’s hard work and passion led her to become the Teller Supervisor at our Main branch in Elk River, and eventually, she found her true calling in the Marketing Department as a Community Engagement Specialist.

Reflecting on her time at The Bank of Elk River, Amy shared, “I have had the opportunity to work with many businesses and organizations in our community and surrounding areas. I have enjoyed collaborating with the City of Elk River, the City of Otsego, ISD# 728, surrounding high schools, and over eight Chambers of Commerce, as well as many 501C(3) organizations. My co-workers are like family to me, and I have made some of my closest friends here at the bank.”

Amy’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. She has received three internal awards: Most Valuable Banker, Top Volunteer, and Definition of a Brand Ambassador. These accolades highlight her dedication and impact within the bank and the community.

Amy remains motivated and engaged by finding creative ways to appreciate existing customers and attract new business prospects. She also seeks new volunteer opportunities for employees, ensuring the bank stays relevant to community needs.

Amy’s journey has not been without challenges. She recalls the difficulties of learning a new position from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, but she overcame these obstacles with confidence and determination.

To new employees, Amy advises, “Let your manager or supervisor know your passions and where you want to grow. Sign up to volunteer! It’s a great way to get to know your co-workers in a non-work setting.”

“We are incredibly proud of Amy’s accomplishments and grateful for her decade of service,” said Julia Schreifels, director of marketing and communications. “Her commitment to making a difference, valuing our customers, and connecting with the community is second to none. Here’s to many more years of success and community impact!”
